About

Empowering Minds, Shaping Futures

At Riverwood School, we nurture every part of a child’s mind, body, heart, and spirit. Our school is a warm, happy, and welcoming place where children feel safe to be themselves, explore freely, and grow into kind, capable people. We respect each child’s individuality and create an environment filled with joy, creativity, and cooperation.

We are not an elite institution, and we are proud of that. We offer an affordable, personalised learning experience for families who value meaningful education. With no more than 25 learners in a class, we make sure every child receives personal attention that supports their unique learning style. Our wonderful teachers are experienced and passionate, and they care deeply about helping each learner thrive.

Our team of motivated and experienced educators is dedicated to shaping an integrated education that aligns with Western Cape Education Department (WCED) guidelines, blending the best of traditional learning with our own creative, hands-on approach.

We follow the Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS), placing strong emphasis on literacy, numeracy, and life skills. Our teachers inspire students with interactive learning experiences and creative workshops.

At Riverwood, we combine this curriculum with environmental education, ensuring that learning is relevant, engaging, and full of wonder. Riverwood is a place where hands-on learning and real-world experiences are part of every child’s journey, ensuring their academic and personal development is supported every step of the way.

Vision, Mission & Aim

Vision

Riverwood School strives to create future adults who live meaningfully, love themselves and others, laugh every day and learn forever.

Mission

At Riverwood, we teach in ways that are:

We want every child to love learning, and we promise to make their journey full of discovery and delight.

Aim

Academic Principles
& Curriculum

Our academic programme is guided by the CAPS (Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement) framework, which we bring to life with creativity and real-world connections. In addition to the core subjects of literacy and numeracy, life skills and environmental awareness are key areas of focus.

We make sure our children become strong readers through our Individualised Reading Scheme, which lets each learner move at their own pace, ensuring a love of reading and comprehension from an early age.

We teach through hands-on projects, blended learning opportunities, outdoor lessons, and themed days that make learning feel exciting and relevant.

Our lessons are grounded in respect for one another, for nature, and for different cultures and beliefs. We teach Christian values and also help children understand and respect other religions.

Our Partners

Our Teachers

Our teachers love what they do, and it shows. They teach with heart, and often take learning outdoors into our gardens and beautiful natural environment, where nature becomes the classroom. Each child is seen, heard, and encouraged to grow in their own way.

Here they are dressed up as book characters to encourage reading inspiring books.

They’re always learning too, attending workshops and courses to bring fresh ideas and energy into the classroom.

The high quality of our teaching is reflected in the individual care given to each learner, ensuring both academic success and personal growth.

School HOurs

Children are welcome to arrive from 07h10, and our friendly staff are already there to greet and supervise them. Our daily rhythm includes plenty of time for academic focus, creative play, movement, and meaningful connection.
